Timpers has cemented himself as one of the leading artists in the NFT space, just recently surpassing the 21,000 milestone on twitter. He has seen huge success on the blockchain, delving into his own collectible collection inspired by the Bored Apes Yacht Club. His collection the TBAC, or better known as ‘The Boring Ape Chronicles’ has collectively brought together the bored ape community, quickly gaining traction on twitter and furthered through the TBAC discord. The buzz stems through the concept of the collection, enabling ape holders to feature in a 4 part narrative amongst other apes alike. The lucky ape holders that are selected are able to extend their investment beyond a profile picture, and are immersed into a bright, pixelated universe.
With the first drop of 100 copies swiftly selling out in under 4 minutes, fans are itching to get a hold of the second release with crypto space icons also hoping to ‘ape in’ including names such as mrfreshasian and mattmedved. With the base price set at 0.25 eth, the floor has risen significantly up to 0.7 and has the potential to surpass this even further in the next release. Timpers has shown fantastic commitment to the story, after the success of his first launch he donated 2.375 eth to the orangutan outreach, a verified BAYC charity. He is bringing life to PNG collectibles while simultaneously contributing to the conservation of real life endangered species, a respectable touch.
The second collection is set to drop this Wednesday and it will be no surprise to see the copies abruptly snatched up by eagerly awaiting fans with secondary market sales also expected to boom.
But with all of this success comes hard work, I interviewed Timpers to find out exactly how he succeeded in becoming one of the most renowned crypto designers, how he began TBAC, and his plans for the future for the collection.
When did your design journey begin?
I’ve had a huge passion for art and being creative since a young age, however in 2015 I first discovered Photoshop during a time I needed to create some branding for my YouTube channel. After using Photoshop for the first time I found it so fun and loved the process of taking time to build something and watch the design come to life. I created lots of time-lapses of my art which I would enjoy watching back over and over. I’ve been extremely interested in using photoshop to make art ever since.
What led you to the NFT scene?
I first learned about the NFT space in February 2021 as I saw many artists and people that I knew talk about it, and it definitely caught my attention. I had heard about NFT’s months earlier but didn’t look too much into it as it was a lot less talked about. Late February saw a huge boom in NFT’s and sparked a wave of amazing art to be produced, accompanied with amazing support, and this really drew me in.
Why do you think your designs are successful?
The key to being successful is to be different, it’s hard to get noticed if your art is similar to that of many others. With my art style being pixel art I know that it’s not as saturated as other forms but still, I try to be unique by creating pieces that involve lots of bright, vibrant colours and animations to bring the pieces to life. Due to sticking with this style for a long time it has become something I’m known for.
What is the future for TBAC and your career?
The Boring Ape Chronicles is one of the biggest projects I’ve worked on and I’m having the most fun I’ve ever had. The bored ape community is extremely supportive and it’s clear they love getting involved in projects like mine, and this really pushes me to work harder. I plan on building TBAC for a long time and create many more series with different narratives. I really enjoy the involvement aspect and giving people with apes the chance to be a part of this project, while also rewarding them.
What advice could you give to aspiring artists in the NFT scene?
One important thing I learnt during my move into the NFT space was to make connections. I got into contact with lots of different people and it really helped to get my name out there and open doors to opportunities.
After listening to Timpers responses, it was evident that he had no intentions of stopping any time soon. Hearing his vision for TBAC gives me reason to believe that this project is set to prosper for a long time, and despite not giving too much away, it is clear that we should expect more to come after the 4 piece collection has concluded. A fundamentally unique project which has brought together the community has enabled Timpers to thrive, an inspiring story that we should all keep an eye on.
