The Million Dollar Rat
From the deep depths of sewer city, the notorious rats reside in the slimy and narrow tunnels below. Being the opportunistic creatures that they are, they wait, eager and impatient for the scent of cheese, greedy and ruthless, they will jump at the first trail that they get, leaving no trash pile unturned, and not one crumb to remain.
Initially starting their journey with the Million Dollar Rat, the creators combined an engaging story alongside outstanding artwork and therefore diverging from what was considered the status-quo for NFTs back in April. Each Sewer City Rat NFT would automatically put the holder in contention for $1 million dollars. But how? With 3,310 Rat NFTs sold, the creators, artists, and developers would receive 50 ETH from the sales while the rest would go towards funding the $1 million bounty. All Sewer City rat NFTs are limited supply, and they come in five tiers, with rarity values ranging from common to epic. Check out this greedy bunch below!
The premise of the story revolves around a soon to be reoccurring character, Mr. Ratelone, a king pin and tycoon that runs Sewer City. Upon hearing that his club had been robbed, embarrassed, and furious, he demonstrated a display of power and placed a $1 million dollar bounty on the golden rat. This would ensure that his grip remained firm on the control over the city. Subsequently, the rats gathered in their masses, scurrying out of the sewers for the chance to get their hands on an enormous amount of money!
The Art Heist
But the journey doesn’t end there, a new storyline emerged when rat holders voted in favour for a pivot of the project. The new storyline is focused on the ‘Art Heist’ whereby the rats would have the opportunity to hunt for a variety of valuable artifacts and treasures as opposed to one grand sum of ETH. Effectively, this change in direction would increase the redistribution of funds from 59% to 70%+ for loyal rat holders, providing them with a better chance for success with multiple prizes and draws included!
In this episode, a mystery rat schemed a heist that would take down one of the most established collectors in the area, Mr. Ratleone’s residence. Preceding the burglary, word quickly spread and the rats have now swarmed the area, hoping to get their greedy paws on some of the most valuable collectibles from the NFT space. But who orchestrated this fiasco, and how will the prized possessions be shared? Over a span of 13 weeks, every week the draw includes 3 or 4 of the best collectible pieces found within the Metaverse, ranging from CryptoPunks & Meebits from Larva Labs to Apes, Cool Cats, Punk Comic, and much more!
One lucky winner
The prizes that The Million Dollar Rat distributes are life-changing. With the prizes bought in early May, they have since increased in value enormously, providing fantastic value for their community. A Rat holder from the NFT space that has felt the benefit of everything that the project has to offer is @PunkHot10. Better known for his time hosting the Punk Charts which featured a coalition of some of the biggest Crypto Punk names in the entire NFT space. A few weeks ago, he was entered into the raffle, but one morning he awoke to an email that he could have never anticipated.
We spoke to Joey below to find out exactly how he felt upon hearing the news!
Walk us through your reaction and what do you expect do with your prize?
Well I got up one Friday morning and was going through my usual bathroom duties whilst checking my phone and noticed I’d received an email purporting to be from Opensea with an offer of 13ETH for my ape. As I didn’t own the ape, I put it down to spam. I took a closer look at the email during breakfast, and it appeared legit, so I clicked through and to my disbelief I found the ape in my wallet. My initial reaction was it must be a mistake, or a gift. Then I checked the from address and it said million dollar rat. Shock and elation were my overriding feelings, and it took a while to sink in that I’d won something with a value of $50k. Though the ape is now valued > $100k I have no immediate plans to sell. By holding I’ve already benefitted from the mutant drop and got lucky again with an m2 serum. I’ve not decided whether to use the serum or sell it. I may sell and buy an m1 serum so that I’ve still got a foot in the mutants. Whatever I do it’s a huge W. I keep saying I’m lucky, but I did buy a ticket and that’s how raffles work. That said if I win again during punk week, I’ll probably have to close my twitter account.
Sewer city is rumbling, I can hear it beneath my feet and the scurrying of the paws and claws through the narrow tunnels is echoing, edging closer and closer. Something is brewing down in the sewers, everybody can feel it. Will Mr. Ratelone be safe this time? There is only one way to find out. Make sure to check out them out if you want the chance to be drawn into another exciting giveaway! With chapter 2 drawing closer, what will the story entail this time?
As the dust begins to settle from the craziness of series 1, no time was left to waste as a new series emerged. Los Ratos is the new location for the rats where W1lly, Turtle and PPman have bought into a rundown comic shop- the Bodega. Rumour has it that they are laying low after recently completing an art heist, thus Los Ratos is the perfect location. It is deprived, old and swarming with rats, namely ‘good guys’. In fact, there are 10,000 of them, each generated from over 180 different traits on the blockchain. For now, the shop is closed, passers-by hear the scurrying of rats inside, something is being crafted in there, and I think we will find out pretty soon…

What inspired you both to join the NFT space, tell us a bit more about your backgrounds and how you both founded the project!
We have mixed professional backgrounds, one from tech and one from design, but a shared love for collectibles and memorabilia, so NFTs are perfect for us - and very nostalgic, to be honest. Creating a project like this is like being a child again - being creative and building a fantasy world with your friends. A lot of what we are working on are ideas derived from when we were kids.
Tell us more about the process of your giveaways and in particular, the story behind the Art Heist!
So, the Art Heist format is at its core about creating an engaging experience with your community. The space was very different when we started working on this, even when we launched in April (before clubs were a thing). One of the main pillars of the Art Heist is to bridge a gap between a digital experience and a real-life experience - winning BAYCs or PUNKs accomplishes that. The majority of the prizes were acquired back in May/June, so we are distributing significantly more than we raised from the sale, creating a lot of value for our loved community.
What is the significance of the rat? Why did you choose this particular animal to showcase your project?
Rats aren't very appealing, so we thought it would be funny to humanize them and make them cool and funny.
The end of the 13 weeks of raffles is coming to a grand finale with punk week. Prior to this, holders have had the chance to be be rewarded with bored apes, meebits and other awesome collectibles. But what does chapter two have to offer?
The next chapter is called the Good Guys and is launching on Sunday (Sept 12). We are moving from the gritty Sewer City to the sunny Los Ratos. We are incredibly excited to continue this journey with our community and develop the new storyline.
In the first chapter, the utility was the loot from the "Art Heist," and in the second chapter, it will be a place called the BODEGA.
The BODEGA will provide the Good Guys with drops. These drops will vary in style and build our storyline in different ways. One of the features of the BODEGA is curated collab drops. We will work with artists to create entire collections for our holders. By leveraging our community, we can offer incredible up-and-coming artists a launchpad, help them get through the noise, and at the same time, create value for our community. It will be a win-win.
